The Agricultural Crop Characterisation Team has a vacancy for a Trials Technician to work on a variety of crops including Cereals and Oilseed Rape.
Work is focused around the checking, assessment and description of plant varieties and involves tasks such as sample handling, trial set-up and drilling, recording of plant characteristics and, after completion of the appropriate training, inspections of seed crops.
The role is highly varied and, although office based, extensive field, glasshouse and laboratory work is required. Outside work takes place in all seasons and some tasks are physically demanding.
You must be flexible and self-motivated with good communication skills and the proven ability to work well as part of a team. You should have a good general level of education (A levels or equivalent in biological/science subjects) with good literacy and numeracy skills. Some experience in field trials would be an advantage. A full driving licence and willingness to drive to trials away from NIAB HQ are essential.
